Boys 60m Dash Preview
One of the state meets closest battles could come in the 60m dash where very little separates the the top few seeds. As always, the three rounds add an extra element to the action, with these sprinters having to get through the trials and semis before the final. Just making this final will be no easy task with a number of boys right at sub-7 seconds or just above it.
Michael Fellin of Marian Catholic has run the state's fastest 60m time this year at 6.88. he scored a big win at the Carnival against a good field and is battle-tested heading into states. He's had a bit of a breakthrough winter and he'll aim to cap it off with a state title.
But there are a host of challengers, headlined by Norristown's Jaden Brown. The senior won the 100m outdoor state title this past spring and knows how to perform at big meets. He ran a 6.90 for 60m and 6.37 for 55m this season and will go for the title this weekend.
Dallastown's Kristian Phennicie ran 6.90 at Kevin Dare this season. He emerged last spring in a big way, like Brown, and is definitely capable of challenging of the title. West Catholic's Marcel Jackson won the TFCAofGP Meet of Champs in 6.96 -- a big PR that makes him a factor for a high finish.
Three others -- North Catholic's Trevor Paschall (6.98), Harrisburg's Justin Cook (6.99), and George Washington freshman Shaun McCoullum (6.99) -- have also gone sub-7 this season in this stacked field. Downingtown West's Deonsae Dorsey has a 7.00 best and is right on the cusp of that barrier.
Getting to the final is step one. After that, it's all about who brings their best to the final.
