Demaris Waters wasted little time this outdoor season making a big statement.
The Harrisburg senior dropped a time of 13.92 in the 110m hurdles to roll to a convincing victory at Saturday's Bruce Dallas Invitational at Mountain View Middle School.
Waters got out well and glided over the hurdles efficiently en route to a PA No. 1 and current US No. 18 (all conditions). That time moves Waters up to PA No. 9 all-time (all conditions) and makes him the first PA boy to go sub-14 seconds since North Allegheny's Ayden Owens in 2018.
Waters is coming off an indoor season that saw him place second at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships in the 60m hurdles. Jake Rose of Southern Columbia won that indoor state title. Rose, the reigning AA state champion in the 110m hurdles, competes in AA, while Waters and Harrisburg are AAA.
Waters went 14.20 at the Tim Cook Memorial Invitational a week prior at Chambersburg. It's a strong start to the outdoor season, and Waters is proving to be a hurdler to watch this spring, not just on the state level, but the national level as well.
