They have been handing out boys and girls PIAA state trophies at Penn State, Lehigh, Bucknell, Hershey, and even Fort Indiantown Gap since 1975. North Allegheny has collected team accolades in Class AAA at almost every state course along the way.
No other high school in Pennsylvania has captured as many state team titles as the Tigers since girls were added to the championship lineup in 1975. It seems only fitting that North Allegheny -- and Brentwood -- walked away from the inaugural PIAA meet for girls with a team title.
Now led by head coach John Neff, North Allegheny has won 14 state team championships, with seven apiece for the boys and girls teams. Their run over the past four seasons has been nothing short of remarkable, with the Tigers joining a select group with their first team title sweep in 2018 to get things rolling.
The NA girls, who start the 2022 season No. 17 in the MileSplit50 national team rankings, also left the Parkview Course in Hershey with the top AAA trophy in 2019, 2020, and a year ago. In the past two years, the boy's squad also topped the big school field for an unprecedented three sweeps in four seasons.
Days before their dual meet opener and a week before their 2022 big meet debut at the 20th annual Red, White & Blue Classic at White Oak Park, Neff and the Tigers opened their practice to a crew from PA MileSplit for a unique look at one of their critical early season workouts. PA MileSplit's exclusive Workout Wednesday video includes insight on the 2022 season from members of NA's coaching staff and standouts Wren Kucler and Gregory Kossuth.
