Girl's Championship
After a standout win last week, Olivia Cieslak did it again as she soared to the individual championship in 18:42. Fellow Haverford sophomore Camryn McGeehan joined her in what can only be described as a dominant performance for the duo.
The Haverford Two, fled from the field and asserted a 50-second lead on the pack. Our mock meet predicted a 45-point finish, and HT improved on that, scoring just 42 points with a 20:08 average time. Their finishes helped propel the team to a DELCO Championship, the school's second in the last three (2020 was canceled).
Zoe Margolies (Radnor) secured a third-place finish with her 19:40, and Loralei Golembiewski (Upper Darby) finished fourth in 19:44. Both were predicted to finish in the Top-6, but they improved upon those predictions and managed top-four finishes.
As expected, Therese Trainer led the Academy of Notre Dame with her respective fifth-place finish. She crossed the line at 19:52 and helped her team edge Springfield for second. Academy of Notre Dame edged Springfield 98 to 100, in a one-position swing.
It came down to a battle between the teams' respective fifth runners. Maura Brady finished in 37th for Notre Dame, outrunning Anastacia Milana (Springfield), who finished in 38th. It was a valiant effort by Milana, who was predicted to finish 57th in our mock meet. She outperformed that prediction by nearly twenty spots.
Lexi Patterson of Springfield also heavily outperformed her ranking. The sophomore was projected to finish 41st, but she turned in a well-timed personal best to finish in tenth with a 20:44, finishing as the team's number one runner.
Strath Haven finished in fourth with 146, Marple Newtown in fifth with 155, and Penncrest in sixth with 157.
Boy's Championship:
Not to be outdone by the Haverford Township girls, seniors Patrick Lawson and Quentin Ryan turned in another 1-2 finish for their team. Running 16:00 and 16:04, respectively, the duo did what they could to put their team in contention.
Additionally, Lawson's win marks the fourth in a row by a Haverford Township boy at the DELCO Championships.
Gavin Mogck (Penncrest) rolled to a third-place finish in 16:12, which would prove to be a crucial finish regarding the final team count. Luke Bodden finished in fourth with his 16:21.
The nationally ranked Episcopal Academy boys stormed to a 36-point victory, with a stout 28-second compression and 16:41 average. Standout Aidan McHugh finished fifth, and three EA boys joined him in the following three slots as Dakin Ebmeyer, Dawson French, and Connor Hanrahan all finished under a blanket.
As mentioned, Mogck's third-place finish was instrumental in Penncrest's team finish, as the squad scored 57 points, within reaching distance of EA's 36. The squad's tight spread of 1:04 and average of 16:56 was in line with our mock meet, which predicted an identical score.
Haverford Township finished third with 69 points, scoring a similar average to that of Penncrest.
Radnor scored a slightly surprising fourth-place finish with just 137 points and a 17:38 average. Strath Haven finished in fifth, and Ridley finished in sixth.
Just outside the top 10 individuals, Michael Glavin (Archbishop Carroll) notched an awe-inspiring performance. He scored a personal best 16:56 and outran his projection by 21-spots.
