It took one meet for a top PA team to face an upset. Two-time defending state AAA girls champs Hatboro-Horsham was beaten handily by St. Basil at the Wood Invitational Friday at Tamanend Park in Bucks County. The stump-strewn winding trails make for a great walk, but a rough run. Basil placed three Morellis (yes, there is another) in the top six. Oldest sister Lynn was 2nd in 18:50, soph Christina was 4th in 19:12, and frosh Rachel was 6th in 19:22. Their 38 points were 22 better than Hatboro, behind the 3rd place finish by sophomore Kerry Swayne in 19:08. Hatboro was missing junior Jen O'Neill, who ran top five for them in 2003. No surprise here, but Wissahickon has another top runner. Senior Annie Wilson won the race in 18:32. Hatboro did win the boys' race by just four points over a Greg Thomas-less Cardinal O'Hara, tallying 64 points. Junior Josh Hibbs of the Hatters went 16:07 for the win, with teammate Austin Hart 3rd in 16:18.
