RANKINGS: Final XC Girls Teams and Way too Early Rankings

Our Way Too Early 2023 Rankings are largely a question of what teams are losing who, and their historic ability to replenish talent. That being said, these student-athletes have a year to improve and we expect to see some changes within the first few weeks of the season in 2023.

Will the North Allegheny girls win a sixth straight title in 2023?

With several 3A teams set to graduate talent, three 2A teams rised into the ranks of the Top-10. Time will tell if they can maintain their stay.

RANK(PREV)TEAMBrief RATIONALE
1

North Allegheny will retain six of their starting seven from this year's championship. They'll be competing for a record sixth straight championship in 2023.

2

Dallastown is going to pick up where they left off in 2022. They'll lose standout Kailey Granger to graduation, but here comes Sophia Rodriguez. She'll join her older sister, Victoria Rodriguez, on the Dallastown squad. The bulk of Dallastown's squad are currently underclassmen. They have at least two years to develop and show what they have on the course.

3

State College will graduate four of its starting seven from this year's state meet. That will be a difficult blow for the program to deal with, but the team is known for its depth and may be able to recoup.

4

With the duo of Olivia Cieslak and Camryn McGeehan returning, Haverford will have a 1-2 punch at the front. They'll graduate their No. 4 and No. 5 runners, Kelly Murray and Shannon Barycki, but have the depth behind them to make up for it.

5

For a squad that excelled by utilizing a tight pack, graduating two seniors from the top-5 will hurt. But they will have five current-juniors leading the way. That experience can help push Phoenixville to strong showings in 2023.

6

Danville will return all of their starting seven. They have a slim compression, and they'll be in the running for a 2A title in 2023.

7

Cathedral Prep won the State Championship despite Rue Burkett breaking her leg in the middle of the race. With her back in the line-up, look for Cathedral Prep to contend again and attempt a title defense.

8

Losing Claire Zubey, Maggie Lustig, and Grace Fennell to graduation will be a blow. But, they managed just fine this year. OJR was a distance factory this year and developed talent incredibly well. If they can follow a similar arc next year, they'll succeed.

9

PV will graduate four of their top seven, but retain three of their top-4. That may make the difference. If the program can pull from their JV ranks and reload, they'll be in the mix for a District 1 title yet again.

10

Beaver Area was on the heels of Danville and Cathedral Prep at the state championship. Though they'll graduate their No. 1, Ella Andrew, they have a tight pack behind here. They'll look to improve on their depth in 2023.
