Butler senior Megan Baggetta enters her senior year as one of the state's top female triple jumpers in Pennsylvania. Last indoor season, she placed 8th at the PTFCA indoor state championships with a jump of 36'-7.75".
This offseason, Baggetta was determined to do whatever it took to improve for the upcoming indoor season.
"I have been lifting a lot more and focusing on doing workouts with the sprinters to help me get faster," explained Megan.
"Megan is driven to excel in sprints, bounding, landing drills, plyometrics, approaches, and the weight room," added Butler Head Track and Field Coach John Williams. "You name it; she wants to do them. We are always working on the things that will pay off on game day."
She loves the challenge of the triple jump because it is an event that involves the combination of speed and power to jump further. Power, coordination, and strength are three qualities that she brings to the event.
"The triple jump is unique, and I like that. In the long jump, you jump far, and in the sprints, you run to see who is the fastest. The drills that I do for triple jump are drills that I used to do as a gymnast, which I believe have made me more successful." said Baggetta.
She is the current school record holder at Butler High School in the indoor & outdoor triple jump, but wants to break both records again this season.
"My biggest competition is myself. My biggest goal is to hit 40 and continually improve at each meet this year," she said.
Coach Williams added, "She has a great awareness of her body from her gymnastic training, which has helped as she develops her triple jump technique. This year's goal is to go over 40 feet and probably further."
