5 Key Takeaways from January

The new year proved to be a successful one for many PA athletes as the month rolled along; here are five takeaways from January.

Laila Campbell is PA's fastest, over 60m and 200m in January

Laila Campbell notched a win at the Pre-Nationals Tune-up over 200m, just edging out Avery Lewis for PA's No. 1 spot. Her time of 24.30 put her in a three-way tie for US No. 21. With a 7.43 60m, Campbell is PA No. 1 and sits at US No. 8.

Michael Woolery and the Episcopal boys ran away with the 800m and DMR

Woolery ran 1:53.28 this weekend

Michael Woolery, from Episcopal Academy, would win the 800m run at the Kristian Marche Memorial Invitational with a PA No. 1 of 1:54.30. He would also play a key role on Episcopal's US No. 11 Distance Medley Relay and US No. 3 4x800.

Woolery has established himself as a threat over the 800m distance and continues to reign over the event. He ran 1:53.28 this past weekend at the Ocean Breeze Invitational. He currently ranks eighth nationally.

Avery Lewis is dominating all over the track and the field

Versatility at its finest. Avery Lewis finds herself atop the rankings of four different events. Lewis's 55m time of 6.95 at the VA showcase is the best in PA and stands eighth nationally. While her long jump of 19-11.25 is PA's best and ranks fifth nationally. Lewis also ran PA's second-best time in the 200m at 24.39.

Jackson Clarke hit his stride

Jackson Clarke had a solid start to the new year with wins at the Spire Scholastic Invitational and the Kevin Dare Invitational. Yet, his best performance came over a distance of 200m. After a win at the Kevin Dare Invite, Clarke improved his time by half a second. Clarke ran 21.56 at the Spire Scholastic Invitational, moving him to US No. 12 and a PA No. 2.

Elizabeth Tapper remains undefeated through January

The Michigan commit would win the shot put in all of her January meets, continuing a dominant indoor campaign. Her throw of 49-1.5, a new personal best, is a PA No.1 and ranks at the No. 2 spot nationally. Elizabeth Tapper also holds PA's top place in the weight throw.
