EUGENE, Ore. - Evelyn Bliss's breakout campaign continued on Sunday evening as she earned a USATF U20 National Championship in the Women's Javelin.
Bliss came out swinging and launched the javelin 169-11 in her first throw. That mark was just off her season best and set the standard for the rest of the field to beat.
Spoiler alert, they couldn't.
Bliss's mark stood firm in the following five rounds despite pressure from Princeton's Shea Greene. Greene won the Ivy League Conference Championship this past spring.
In 2022, Bliss was ranked as the US No. 10 among High Schoolers. This year, she took a significant leap forward. She won the PIAA 2A State Title with a monster 170-02 and rose to US No. 2. She will now represent Team USA in Puerto Rico at the U20 Pan American games on August 4-6.
Bliss is slated to compete at Bucknell University this upcoming year and had the chance to mix it up with future teammate Brylee Tereska. Tereska finished fourth in the U20 Championship with a throw of 147-2.
Penn State's Audrey Friedman was also in the field. She finished eighth overall.
