A year ago, Colin Whitaker (Lampeter Strasburg) ran 15:04 at the adidas XC Challenge. This year, he climbed another considerable rung on the ladder.
On Saturday, Whitaker unleashed an unreal 14:42.60 to finish second at the adidas XC Challenge. That time will go down in history as the PA No. 2 All-Time XC 5000m. It is second to only Gary Martin's 14:24.
To make matters more impressive, Whitaker finished second to only Ty Steorts, who debuted at US No. 11 in the MileSplit National Rankings. Steorts, a Junior, covered the course at 14:38.
Could Whitaker earn a national ranking after that mark? Whitaker has taken a giant leap forward this year as he looks to compete with Ringgold's Ryan Pajak for the 2A State Championship.
His time currently ranks as a US No. 7 and instantly catapults him into the national conversation - and rightfully so.
Whitaker is an elite athlete with a unique skill set, enabling him to succeed regardless of race, distance, or circumstance.
Unbelievably, we wouldn't be surprised if Whitaker finds a way to run faster again this year.
