On Saturday, Jordan Sowell (Cheltenham) unleashed an unreal Triple Jump of 49-9.25 to position himself at the PA #2 All-Time slot.

Sowell opened with a 46-1 before slinging himself to a 49-8.5 on his second attempt. On the third go-at-it, he hit the prolific 49-9.25.

His current mark is less than a foot behind the State Record of 50-6.75, set by Carlton Lavong (Methacton) in 2010. Lavong finished second at Nike Indoor Nationals with that mark. He later won an NCAA DII National Title while competing for Adams State.

Sowell now leads the PA State Rankings with his jump. But where did he come from?

The Cheltenham Senior finished fifth at the PTFCA Indoor State Championship last year. He jumped a respectable 44-10.75 last indoor season. On the outdoor runway, he jumped similar marks for most of the season.

At the PIAA 3A State Championship, his horizontal leap of 44-9.5 placed him seventh overall. But later in the summer, Sowell had a breakthrough. At the UAGTCA Ron Jackson Youth Invitational, Sowell unexpectedly jumped an outdoor personal best of 47-3.75.

He has carried that momentum into the indoor season. He is currently ranked amongst the best jumpers in the nation.
