It doesn't get any closer than that.
On Sunday, Shaun McCoullum ran the race of his life and tied the Pennsylvania Indoor State Record over the 200m. He ran 21.01 to win his finals heat and finish fourth overall. As such, he earned All-American status.
That time ties Austin Kratz's state record run from 2018. At that year's New Balance Nationals meet, Kratz ran 21.01 to win the national title.
McCoullum, just a junior, obviously carried momentum from his 60m win at the state championship. He ran 6.74 to win the state title.
In his interview - McCoullum made mention to the difficulty of the weekend against the nations best. McCoullum also had to navigate the preliminary sections. He ran 21.47 in the prelims, which qualified him as the fifth seed.
Prior to this weekend, his personal best was 21.47.
