As the state is wrapping up the regular season, standout youngsters are continuing to make a name for themselves.
The Pennsylvania season will continue through November, with post-season competition extending to December. In that time, we'll be highlighting some of our "Future Stars".
These are athletes, typically underclassmen, who have the potential to be stars tomorrow. We will highlight a couple of athletes each week.
Chloe May
Bedford • Class 2027
Chloe May continues to build upon her freshman-year success during the 2024 cross country season.
May, currently ranked 5th in the state for 2A runners, is having a breakout year after running a big personal best of 18:26.00 at the Carlisle Invitational. She finished 10th in the Challenge Race, beating Vivian Kelly (Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School). For reference, Kelly won last year's DCSAA Cross Country Championship, Washington D.C.'s equivalent of a state meet.
May placed 16th at the 2023 PIAA State Championship, running 19:39.00. This year, May is setting herself up to contend even higher among the 2A ranks.
Hudson Vrbicek
Covenant Christian Academy • Class of 2027
Hudson Vrbicek is currently the top-ranked 1A sophomore in District 3 after running a personal best of 16:32.50 in the LVC Dutchmen XC Invite on September 7th.
He set his PR while mixing things up with some of District 3's other top runners. For reference, he was 12 seconds ahead of fellow 1A runner Matt Clemson (Annville-Cleona). Clemson finished 4th at last year's District 3 Championship and was 48th at the 2023 PIAA State Championship.
Vrbicek has shown consistency this season, running 17:08.00 to finish 16th at the Carlisle Invitational in the Champions Race.
