10/28-Staab and Weiss return to Slippery Rock and repeat, becoming WPIAL champs in the process.

Well, Marania Staab of Penn-Trafford did run. The soccer player-turned XC star, was permitted to run in her first WPIAL championship race, and she made the most of it. She won. On a warmer day than her win a week before in the TSTCA Champs on the same course, she went 19:13 for the title. Second for the second week in a row went to West Allegheny junior Kaycee Shaffer. North Allegheny took the AAA team title, and will be joined at States by Oakland Catholic, Mount Lebanon and Penn-Trafford. Jeff Weiss, the McGuffey senior, followed up his record run of a week ago with a 15:37 win. Greensburg Central Catholic tallied 85 points to lead the team qualifying. Joining them will be Ellwood City, Avonworth and Quaker Valley. In AAA, North Hills, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, North Allegheny and Penn Trafford are the qualifiers. Connellsville's Ken King took the title with a 16:05. And in girls' AA, Brentwood frosh Rachel Erny ran the fastest time of the day, a 19:10. Quaker Valley, Riverview, Center and Shady Side Academy are the state qualifiers.
