DVGTCA Indoor Meet #1
It was only the first weekend, but there were many spectacular opening weekend performances that could perhaps set the tone to what could be an incredibly fast season! And it all started with the very first event.
Strath Haven won a very competitive 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:40.76. The top five teams were all under 9:55, compared to zero teams under that mark on opening day last year. The other hot relay performance came from the Central Bucks East 4x200 meter relay, who were victorious with a time of 1:49.11.
The field events were also off to a great start, especially in the long jump. Jordan Matthews of Abington was the winner of that event with a mark of 18-05.50. Madeline Eustache of Upper Darby (18-04.25) and Diamond Hodge of Girls High (18-00.25) also broke the 18 foot mark. In the triple jump, Gabby Beccatini of Methacton won the event by over one full foot with a mark of 36-10.75, and in the high jump, both Anne Holland of Pennridge and Kelly Ann Stuetz of Cheltenham cleared 5-4.
Back on the track, a couple district one cross country standouts had some impressive 2010-2011 debuts. AAA state cross country state champion Lindsay Rheiner of Council Rock North won the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.36, six seconds better than the field. District one AAA cross country champion Tori Gerlach of Pennridge won the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:31.26. Sprinting highlights include Taylor Ellis-Watson of Springside winning the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.48 and Jody-Ann Evans of Quakertown won the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.77.
