DVGTCA Meet of Champions

Emma Keenan of Gwynedd Mercy Academy, Elyse Wilkinson of Penn Charter, and Lindsay Rheiner of Council Rock North electrified the Lehigh University indoor track and gave those in attendance one to rememeber. Wilkinson ran with her normal aggressive style, running splits of 31, 63 for 400, and 1:35 for 600 meters. Wilkinson had a sizeable lead until the backstretch on the final lap, when both Keenan and Rheiner both made moves. Coming off the last turn, Keenan was right on Wilkinson's shoulder and in the final 20 meters, she passed Wilkinson to take the gold medal. Keenan's time of 2:13.09 is US#3 and sets a new DVG all time record. The previous record was held by former West Catholic great and former NCAA champion Latavia Thomas (2:14.0h) from 2005. Wilkinson ran 2:13.34, her 2nd fastest indoor time behind her US#2 2:12.53 from January, and Rheiner ran a US#4 time of 2:14.16.
Not to be outdone, Leah Nugent redeemed herself nicely from her false start at the PTFCA Indoor Carnival by setting a new all time DVG record and US#4 time of 8.57 in the 60 meter hurdles. The previous record was 8.60 held by former Methacton and current Kansas State star Ryan Krais set in 2008. Emerald Walden of Plymouth Whitemarsh finished 2nd with a US#7 time of 8.75, her second personal best in as many weeks. Going into next week's state championships, the girls 60 meter hurdles will feature the US#4, US#5 (Shelley Black) and US#7 performers going head to head.
Cierra White of Engineering and Science earned her 2nd sprint double in as many weeks, winning the 60 meter dash in 7.61 and winning the 200 meter dash in 25.06. Taylor Ellis-Watson of Springside won the 400 meter dash in 58.26, defeating current state leader Jordan Matthews (2nd in 58.61) in the process. Matthews would win the long jump with a mark of 18-11.25. Madeline Eustache of Upper Darby was 2nd and moved up to PA#2 with her mark of 18-8. Gabby Becattini of Methacton won the triple jump with a mark of 37-9. She also finished 4th in the long jump with a PA#6 mark of 17-10. Imani Shell of Friends Central finished 5th in the long jump with a PA#7 mark of 17-9.25. Diamond Hodge of Girls High was 2nd in the triple jump with a PA#2 mark of 36-11.25 and Katie McCoubrie of Conestoga was 3rd with a PA#3 mark of 36-10.75.
Tori Gerlach of Pennridge and Sarah Holl of Upper Dublin ran neck and neck for the final 200 meters of the one mile run, with Gerlach barely holding off Holl with a 5:09.53 performance. Holl clocked in at 5:09.66, a PA#6 performance. Meghan McGovern of North Penn got out of her 10:20s slump and broke through with a new personal best and PA#4 time of 10:08.62 to win the 3000 meter run. In the battle of 5-8 high jumpers, Anne Holland of Pennridge came out on top with a clearance of 5-6. Anna McCloskey of Cardinal O'Hara finished the DVG season unbeaten with her MOC victory of 40-3.25.
In relay action, North Penn moved up to PA#2 in the 4x800 meter relay with their winning performance of 9:32.01. Pennsbury won the distance medley relay with a PA#2 time of 12:26.87 with Sara Sargent anchoring the relay in around 5:00.
