West Chester East has been mentioned by many as a team to watch at States. Well, the guys got off to a great start at the Maroon & Gold Invitational at Kutztown University, tallying just 32 points in an eight-team field to win by 37. Behind the 16:36 win by senior talent Duriel Hardy, East placed five in the top 12 and all seven in the top 20. Their spread was just 1:25. Team runner-up Boyertown was led by race runner-up Jason Well in 16:29.
In the girls race, East also won the individual title, as Alycia Woodruff, a junior, ran 20:24. Her brother Justin had also won this race. He now runs at Shippensburg University. Wyomissing took the team title behind the 2nd place finish of sophomore Nicolette Miller in 20:43. It was my a mere point over Conrad Weiser, 55-56. Both squads placed scorers in the top 18.
