10/15 WKND: LaSalle 2nd, O\'Hara 4th @ VCP - Ward wins home invite - Spence 2nd in Gettysburg

High School results are on for the Mingo Classic, Rocky Grove Inv, Saint James School Inv MD, State College Inv, Eastern States @ VCP, and the adidas Southern California Inv. NEED RESULTS FOR: Central Columbia Inv... plus any of the Middle School, Junior High meets that were held. Georgetown Prep MD meet cancelled for this year.

Defending AA state champ Rachel Erny of Brentwood posted a quick 19:13 on 10/13 at the Mingo Classic to win by 22 seconds over Baldwin\'s Allyson Sheehan, but Baldwin, with three runners in the top six, would win. For the boys, Gateway was a ten point winner. Baldwin\'s Mike Meade won the race in 16:29.

Running a week later made a big difference in the weather, and LaSalle took advantage, getting 2nd at the Eastern States Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. NE#9 Cardinal O\'Hara was 4th, while SE#1 Thomas Jefferson was 2nd. Unranked Oakton VA was 1st.

Katherine Ward won her home invitational in State College, her 4th meet win of the season, going 19:35 on a redesigned course. Shikellamy\'s Lindsey Scheller would take 2nd in 19:47. Altoona won the Girls\' team title with 57 points, with State College 3rd with 89, seven behind Punxsutawney. In the boys\' race, State College held off Chambersburg 42 to 49. Chambersburg placed three i the top six, including Tommy Taylor in 1st at 17:19. State College\'s Matt Kisenwether was 2nd, ten seconds back.

At the Gettysburg College Invitational, homeschooled Neely Spence was 2nd out of 257 runners in the women\'s 6k, going 20:58.

At the Rocky Grove Invitational, Knoch senior Artie Black led a trio of teammates across the line in the top five to start the scoring that would result in a 62 to 68 win over Titusville. The girls race wasn\'t as close as General McLane tallied just 39 points behind Lindsay Petri.

Ellwood City swept the team titles at the Tri-County North Conference meet as Jake Walker finished 1st in 15:55, and teammate Janet Carson took 2nd in 20:47. Kacey Gibson, Neshannock, won the girls race in 18:26.

Carlisle went west to run in the adidas Southern California Invitational, a uniquely formatted event that pits #1 vs #1, and down the line to 6\'s and 7\'s in the same race. The places are then tallied, and team finishes determined. The Carlisle girls took 3rd in Division 2 behind Marie Lamparter\'s 14th place 14:57 for the slightly short of 4k course. The Carlisle boys would take 6th behind Aaron Hoover\'s 17:59 for 5k.

Mercersburg took four of the top six places behind the 18:07 by James Finucane to tally 34 points and win the Saint James School Inv in Maryland. In the girls race, Madi McConnell ran 21:32 for 2nd place, leading her team to a 2nd place finish.

Weekend Preview:Carlisle High School\'s varsity and JV teams are in California for the big adidas Southern California XC Invitational. Of course, they\'ll be visiting local sites like Universal Studios after the race. Northeast #10 Cardinal O\'Hara\'s boys are in New York for the Eastern States Race at Van Cortlandt Park. They\'ll race previously ranked Monsignor Farrell NY, among other quality teams. Katherine Ward will toe the line in her home invitational, looking to win her fourth invite of the season. Chambersburg is going to the meet, but leaving their varsity at home to train.

This is the weekend for novice, middle school/junior high meets. Lower Dauphin hosts a middle school meet. There is a Frosh/Soph meet at Mount Saint Joseph\'s Academy. And the Wyoming Valley coaches have their junior high champs. Make sure we get results from those races. These athletes are the future. And the college ranks have some great meets as well. DeSales hosts their annual race. Homeschooled Neely Spence of Shippensburg will race at the Gettysburg Invitational. And some top US teams will visit really Happy Valley to compete in the Penn State National Invitational.
