Pennsbury girls made it three team titles in a row, with each win looking more convincing than the previous win. Two weeks
ago they beat Downingtown East by one point at Briarwood. Last week they defeated upstart Unionville by 35 points. Today at
Lehigh, they finished 44 points better than Walt Whitman (MD) and 80 points better than the next PA team, Downingtown East.
Pennsbury benefitted from a 8-9 finish from Ann Herman (18:34) and Sara Sargent (18:37) and their top five all running under 20 minutes on the partly muddy course. Pennsbury were the only team with four in the top 30 overall. 4th place went to State College with 220 points. Individually, it was Julie Macedo of Charter (DE) (Pennsbury group photo by Don Rich - Macedo photo by Charles Stone) stealing the show for the 2nd meet in a row. After running 16:53 last week at Six Flags in New Jersey, she earned a 28 second victory over 2nd place Tori Gerlach, running the 3rd fastest time at the Paul Short run in 17:26! Gerlach got her 3rd runner up finish of the season, and the 2nd time she's been the best PA girl in the field. Her 17:53 is close to her Lehigh course best of 17:45 she ran last season. Alexis Panisse of Benjamin Cardozo (NY) (17:56), Marissa Sheva of Pennridge (18:24), and Hannah Grossman of Strath Haven (18:26) rounded out the top five. In the white race, Cornwall (NY) held off PA squads Mount Saint Joseph and Conrad Weiser by very close margins, 141-145-148. Haasiyna Taylor of Mount Saint Joseph won her 2nd invitational in a row, running 18:39 to beat out runner up Emma Mahony of Villa Joseph Marie.
In the boys Brown race, Lasalle rebounded from their 2nd place finish in Carlisle to cruise to victory at Lehigh with a score of 154 points. Tom Coyle led the way for the winners with his 7th place finish (16:08) and his team also placed three others inside the top 40, the only team in the field to accomplish that. Holy Ghost Prep finished 2nd with 227 points, followed by Charter (DE) with 235 points, Great Valley with 249 points, and North Rockland (MD) rounded out the top five with 262. Individually, Dustin Wilson of Chestnut Hill Academy (Wilson photo by Charles Stone) entered another big meet and earned another big victory. After a fast first mile of 4:54, Wilson broke away enough at the mile and a half mark to earn another win in 15:46. Max Norris of Harriton ran 15:55 to finish 2nd, Brendan Shearn of North Schuylkill ran 16:00 for 3rd and got his 3rd top three finish this season, Korey Replogle of Altoona (16:03) and Aaron Wilkinson of Valley View (16:03) rounded out the top five. In the white race, West Chester East earned the team title with 112 points and four in the top 26. Central Dauphin was 2nd with 183 points and Conrad Weiser was 3rd with 239 points. Jared Schatz of Lancaster Mennonite and Ryan Hertzog of South Western both ran 16:21 to have the fastest times of the race.

49 teams will be running at Lehigh in the tough “BROWN” race! Bethesda Chevy-Chase (MD) (3rd Bull Run Elite), Governor Mifflin (1st @ Spiked Shoe)(6th 2010), and Haverford (1st @ Abington) (4th 2010) will likely be among the top 8 with an outside shot at being Top 5! State College (1st @ Big Valley, 3rd @ Spiked Shoe and PIAA Foundation) and Centerville (OH)(3rd 2010) will likely be in the top 5 with an outside shot at taking home 1 of the 3 plaques! The 3 stand out teams are super-strong!! Walt Whitman (MD) is ranked #1 in Maryland and would love to beat the PA powers! Downingtown East (1st CENTAUR, 2nd @ Briarwood to Pennsbury by 1 point) is solid 1 thru 7 and should battle Pennsbury (2nd @ PTXC3, 1st @ Briarwood and PIAA Foundation) (1st in 2010) for the top spot.
There will be around 400+ runners at the starting line on Friday, but only 12 have a legitimate shot at being #1. 5 girls who have a very outside shot are Amy Darlington (Liberty), Hannah Grossman (Strath Haven), Ann Herman (Pennsbury), Sophie Meehan(Haverford), and Tessa Mundell(Governor Mifflin). The next higher-rated 6 have won Saturday races this year and have beaten and lost to each other at different times. Marissa Durako (Holy Redeemer), Tori Gerlach (Pennridge), Kara Steinke (Methacton), Maria Seykora (Notre Dame), Paige Stoner(Pottsville), and Sara Sargent (Pennsbury) all should be in the low 18’s or maybe even under! If yu are counting, remember I said 12 girls could be the Paul Short Champ (5 plus 6 is eleven) one left. The odds on favorite is Julie Macedo (Charter School of Wilmington) who just recently won the Six Flags meet defeating Meghan McGovern (North Penn) by over a minute---and YES!!!!--she broke 17:00 WOW!!!! With all the colleges looking on, this race rates to be OUTSTANDING!!
