1/9: Chester County Championships @ Ursinus College: PIAA XC State Champ and Foot Locker Finalist Liz Costello returned to action, and immediately set a PR in the Mile with a US#5 5:06.00 with splits of 74, 77 (2:31) 79 (3:51), 74. She then led off the Conestoga 4x400 with a 59.2 split, followed by Ashley Niness (61.6), Kierstin Quinn (61.5) and anchor Carly Niness (58.8), for a school record 4:01.73. West Chester Henderson was less than two seconds back. Those marks are PA #2 and #3. Coatesville improved to PA#2 in the 4x200 with their 1:46.91. Henderson's Nicole Powell set a meet record of 26.29 in the 200, while meet records were also set by Coatesville in the 4x200 (1:46.91), by West Chester East in the 4x800 (10:02.73), and by Shanahan's Caitlin Fairbairn in the Pole Vault, clearing 11-0. Henderson's Megan Horne now shares the top spot in PA with her 5-04 High Jump. Five Meet Records were set in the boys' events. Coatesville went 3:33.03 to take the 4x400. Avon Grove's Javan Sanders ran 6.62 (PA#3) to win a quick 55 dash over Conestoga's Duwann Clarke, 2nd in 6.72. The Mile and 3000 saw new marks as West Chester East's Duriel Hardy ran 4;26.39 and Unionville's Paul Springer went 9:00.83. And Tony Shirk of Phoenixville cleared 13-10 in the Pole Vault, improving his PA #1 ranking.
1/10: Albright College HS Invite #1: Kutztown's Shane Riegel captured the 55 Hurdles with a time of 7.9 seconds. Nick Hilton, Exeter, doubled with wins in the Mile in 4:57.7 and the 3000 in 9:39.9. Devon Coon of Schuylkill Valley won the 55 in 7.4 and the 200 in 27.4. And in the rarely run 4x176 yard relay, the Owen J. Roberts girls went 1:32.5, while the Reading boys ran 1:21.5. In the Triple Jump, Exeter's Travis Savidge leapt 44-01. He also captured the Long Jump, going 20-09.75 and took 2nd in the High Jump.
1/11: DELCO GIrls Indoor Championships @ Haverford College: The PCL's Archbishop Prendergast used the county meet as a prime opportunity to post a PA #5 4x800 of 9:55.7, PCL rival Cardinal O'Hara was 2nd at 9:59.2. O'Hara did reverse the order in the DMR, going 12:56.9, with Prendie 2nd at 13:11.5. Karen Shump of Penncrest, won another county shot put title, this one with a toss of 42-07.50. Strath Haven's Lisa Vienneau posted a quick 1600 at 5:10.6, with Prendie's Colleen Boland at 5:13.5.
1/11: TSTCA Indoor Meet # 2 @ University of Pittsburgh: This time, North Allegheny's Max Brown selected the 3000, but the result was the same, a win... posting a PA#1 8:50.9. Lucas Zarzeczny, Northgate, and Scott Van Kooten, Central Catholic, went 8:53.8 and 8:59.9, respectively. Toney Clemons of Valley, moved into #3 in the Long Jump in PA with a leap of 22-0. Sean Gil of North Allegheny, upped the ante in the Pole Vault, leading PA now with his 15-0. The Laurel Highland's Jared Jodan cleared 14-06 for 2nd, and 2nd in PA. Caitlin Hewitt, Latrobe, joined Easton's Lindsay Regan at the top in PA with a 12-0 Pole Vault. Allyn Laughlin, Center, moved into 2nd in PA with a Shot Put of 41-09. Hempfield's Samantha Fetter was 2nd with a throw of 40-08.50. And in the 3000, Penn-Trafford's Diana Filtz won the 3000, going 10:31.6. Jess Zozos of Shaler, was 2nd at 10:35.5.
1/13: Colgate Women's Games HS wk#3 @ Pratt Institute, NY: The girls of Engineering & Science continued to pound the Pratt track with fast times in week #3 of the 4--week qualifying meet series. Benita Taylor won the 800 in 2:19.3 and was 5th in the 400 at 1:00.2. LaVaughn Jones took 2nd in the 1500, going 4:53.4.
1/13: DVGTCA Indoor Meet #6 @ Lehigh University: Just like clockwork, Karen Shump is over 42 feet again in the Shot Put, this one at 42-07.25. Ryann Krais, who like Shump is one of the incredible talents gracing this year's sophomore class in PA, won the 55 Hurdles in 8.3, after going 8.2 in the prelims. West Chester East distance ace Alycia Woodruff showed some wheels in the 800, winning in 2:24. The 3000 is setting up to be a quick race at States. St. Basil's Kathleen Davies went 10:28.5 to win, with Council Rock North's Allison Sikora seven seconds back, and Sarah Simonetti, Pennridge, under six seconds behind that. Coatesville held off the charge of Methacton's Ryann Krais in the 4x200, winning by a second in 1:47.4. Six teams were under 10 minutes in the 4x800, led by Villa Maria in 9:51.9. A big Pole Vault by Caitlin Fairbairn of Shanahan, clearing 11-06.50. And Carlyi Niness of Conestoga posted a PA#2 Triple Jump of 36-04.25.
1/13: Slippery Rock HS Inv. #1 @ Slippery Rock University: Nebraska-bound Erin Hannon of Bradford started her indoor season with a huge Long Jump, going 18-02,now a PA#2 and only three inches below her outdoor PR. She also cleared 5-04 to win the High Jump, and ran 8.87 in the 55 Hurdles in the prelims, winning the finals in 8.98. McDowell's Alexandra Acker cleared 11-06 to win the Pole Vault. Bible's Baptist's Brandon Tress traveled west for the competition, and found it in McDowell's Brice Myers, taking second to the Erie athlete 7.86 to 7.92 in the 55 Hurdles. Thomas Jefferson's B.J. Wolfgang clearaed 6-03 in the High Jump.
1/14: Dickinson College HS Invite #2: The 55 was quick for both boys and girls. Williamsport's Joshua Kink went 6.5, edging York's Joe Pressoir and Mount Saint Joseph MD's Jarred Picks. Mercersburg's Whitney Matthey went 7.2 to win the girl's 55. Matthew also won the 200, going 26.7. And Jenny Green, Williamsport, won the 400 in 1:01.6.
1/14: Lavino Relays @ Lawrenceville Prep, NJ: PA's Glen Mills won two relays, one on the track and one in the field events. Their 4x200 ran a PA#3 1:32.7. Council Rock North took 3rd in 1:33.6. Robert Williams and Kim Touch combined with throws of 50-03 and 55-00, respectively in the Shot Put for the victory.
1/14: Lebanon Valley College Indoor Meet #2: Exeter's Travis Savidge improved his PA#4 Triple Jump to 44-02.50. Reading's Chandalyn Windchester was a double winner, taking the 55 in 7.2 and the 200 in 27.5. Abigail Johnson, Milton Hershey, took the 400 in 1:00.2, and Garden Spot's Eric Wissler took the 55 Hurdles in 7.9 seconds.
1/14: TFCAGP D1 Indoor Meet #6 @ Lehigh University: Bensalem's Reggie Carter now owns a PA#2 in the 400 after his 50.2. North Penn captured two relays in quick fashion, the 4x200 in a PA#3 1:33.1 and the DMR in a PA#2 tie 10:45.4. Kevin Talley, Simon Gratz, went 22.9 to win the 200.
1/14: TFCAGP D2 Indoor Meet #6 @ Lehigh University: Academy Park's Aaron Hunter moved up to PA#2 in the Triple Jump with a leap of 44-10.50. Chichester's Carrington Queen continued to work on straight speed, as he went 23.0 in the 200. Trevon Rainford, Engineering & Science, battled out the 15-lapper to hold off Strath Haven's Rob Spear 9:04.4 to 9:07.6.
1/14: Bloomsburg University HS Invitational:
1/14: Molloy Stanner Games @ NY Armory: It was a PA kind of day in the air above the Pole Vault as our girls took four of the top five spots. Easton's Abby Schaffer and Whitehall's Brooke Borso cleared 11-07 for 2nd and 3rd. Each reportedly had good looks at 12-01. Becky Frey, Liberty, was 4th and Amber Gafferym, Susquehanna Community, were 4th and 5th respectively, each going over 11-01.
1/14: Montgomery Invitational @ Prince George Sports & Learning Center, MD: Another meet, another day of wins for the West Catholic girls. Simone Carter, Kneshia Sheard, Christiana Taylor and Latavia Thomas teams to go 1:42.42 to win the 4x200. Katurrah Hayman, Latavia Thomas, Erica Ferguson and Kneisha Sheard, anchoring in 56.6, won the 4x4000 in 4:02.88. Sheard also won the 400, beating Maryland star Elan Hilaire with here 56.59 after an opening 200 split of 25.9. She also finished 3rd in the 55 Hurdles, going 8.32. Thomas captured the 800 in 2:15.21. Simone Carter was 5th in the 55 dash with her 7.27. The Wyomissing girls ran a strong 1:53.49 4x200. Wyomissing's Eric Miller went 6.97 for 55 meters. And the Baldwin boys ran 11:50.29 in the DMR.
1/14: Marietta College High School Meet #1, OH: Ambridge's Jonathan Kowal took 3rd in the 55 Hurdles with a time of 8.22 after running 8.16 in the prelims. His 53.86 in the 400 was good enough for 5th. Two Canon-McMillan athletes placed well in the Long Jump as Melissa Alauzen leapt 16-08.50 for 2nd, and Stephanie Austin went 16-03.25 for 3rd. Their teammate Katelynd McElhany took 2nd in both the 55 Hurdles (9.24) and the 400 (1:05.09). The Canon-McMillan girls were 3rd with 86 points, while Trinity's girls took 4th with 46. The Trinity boys were 3rd with 84 points, while Canon-McMillan was 5th with 37.

Shot Put: Hershey's Jess Tack won the Shot Put with a throw of 37-02.

Hughesville's Rachel Houseknect 8.4 to 8.6 in the finals.
