Highlighting the weekend... The weather was perfect. The venue perfection. The athletes primed to assault the record books of two states in the two-mile at the 2ND HENDERSON INV on 5/4. With the help of two Henderson runners, Boyertown's Jason Weller and each other, Colts Neck New Jersey's Craig Forys and Unionville's Paul Springer went one-two in what may be the best prep 2-mile race on PA soil. When the clock stopped, Forys ran 8:49.99, Springer 8:52.86 and Weller 9:08.42. Forys broke the 8:52.0 record held by Charlie Logan of Bernards in 1979. Springer broke the 8:56.56 2-mile record set by Lewisburg's Chris Spooner in 2004. Not to be lost in the state record atmosphere of the 2-mile race, Germantown Academy's Elliot Rhodes ran the top 800 time in PA with a 1:52.96. Rhodes led the race wire-to-wire. Henderson's Carly Hamond ran a solo 10:51.03 3200. Downingtown West's Christen Arnold leapt 18-07 to take the long jump and ran 12.25 to win the 100. Rustin's Alanna Owens won the shot put and discus. At BALDWIN, Breehana Jacobs, Laurel Highlands (in photo by Carl Strub), won three events, the 100 in 11.93, the 200 in 24.64 and the 400 in 55. 33. Soph AJ Hobart of Baldwin went 4:12.30 to win the 1600. And Chris Wolfe, also of Baldwin, ran 49.79 and 155.05 for the 400-800 double. The WEST CENTRAL COACHES MEET in Altoona always shows off the best talent in this region. As one person who saw the meet said, "The Seymours put on quite a show." The Seymours are Central Cambria sisters Carly and Kelsey. Junior Carly set two meet records, while freshman Kelsey set one of her own. The girls dominated everything from the 800 to 3200 and posted the best times of the day in those three events, whether AA or AAA. Kelsey was sub-2:19, Carly sub-4:59 and sub-10:41. United's Eric Skedel now has the #2 javelin throw of the season in PA, going 208-04. Derry's Amanda Palenchar cleared 12 in the pole vault. Altoona's Bethany Lender won both the long and triple, with both she and Central Mountain's Kristin Brandt credited with 17-01.50 in the long jump, and Lender going 37-04.50 to Brandt's 37-00 in the triple jump. Altoona AJ Alexander went 10.95 and 22.02 to win both the 100 and 200 but has to keep an eye out for State College freshman Alex Kenney who was 2nd by just .04 in the 100 and by just .11 in the 200. At the 4/30 BELLWOOD INVITATIONAL, Bedford's Brandi Harris leapt 18-0 in the long jump and added a 5-0 win in the high jump. Eric Skedel of United threw the jav 197-07. At the 5/2 LIBERTY LAST CHANCE MEET, Becky Frey of Liberty cleared 12-05.50, with Easton's Abby Schaffer just 4" shorter. On 5/3 at the TROJAN TRACK CLASSIC @ Wissahickon, Joe Berry, fresh off is Penn Relays record in the pole vault, upped his PR by 3/4-inch to 16-4, breaking a 14-year-old meet record by a lot of air. Cheltenham's Brandon Bing put up some impressive times, going 10.75 for 100, 21.88 for 200, and a smokin' 48.26 for 400. At the DELCO GIRLS' CHAMPS, Karen Shump is using her pitcher's experience to really have a breakthrough season in the discus. She is now 15 feet over her 2006 PR with a throw of 148-07. At the HELMAN INVITATIONAL @ Pennridge HS, the Central Bucks East girls went 3:58.9 in the 4x400, and also captured the 4x100. Kate Ross of CB East ran a solo 5:05.7 1600. Ryann Krais, Methacton, ran 56.1 for the 400. Nick Coberly, Pennridge, went 49.3 to win the boy's one lapper. At the KEN MONTGOMERY MEMORIAL @ William Tennent, Mike Pio doubled on his home track with a 1:56.34 for 800 and 4:26.36 for 1600. Teammate Kayla Hennessy went 15.35 and 45.30 to take the 100 and 300 hurdles. At the PINE-RICHLAND INVITATIONAL, Brashear was powered in the sprints by Jeren Debardelaben, who won the 100 and 200 after quicker times in the prelims. His 4x100 ran a 44.2. Pine-Richland's Terhea Doaty ran 14.9 to win the 100 hurdles, and 45.7 to take the 300 hurdles. At the LOWER MERION INVITATIONAL, Swenson's Shanae Bailer swept the 100 and 400, while teammate Tyrell Moon took care of the boy's 200 and 400. Getting some solo 800's in, North Penn's Steve Franks ran 1:57.92 and Justin Brookheimer 1:58.06. At the BLUE STREAK RELAYS, Lancaster Mennonite's DMR was anchored to a 12:41.5 win by Lindsey Shertzer, earning a narrow victory over Hempfield's 12:42.6. The Milton Hershey guys posted a quick 4x400, winning in 3:25.2. Penn Manor's Alyssa Girvin threw the discus 132-05. At the CEDAR CLIFF RELAYS, Cedar Crest's boys smoked the 4x400 in 3:18.5. Harrisburg's girls took the 4x100 in 48.5, the 4x200 in 1:42.5, and the 4x400 in 4:02.1. At the COUDERSPORT'S INVITATIONAL, the home team's Emily Giannotti ran 11:25.7 to win the 3200. The boys' jav was close - 5:" close, as Tom Cooney of Smethport threw 165-01 to beat Coudersport's Drew Levavaseur. At the JAMES CROSS WILKES-BARRE INVITATIONAL, Anita James of Pocono Mountain West went 18-01.75 in the long jump, and 36-04.50 in the triple. Tunkhannock's Tihagee Daughtry was quick in the 100 (11.24) and 200 (23.24). At the LADY ROCKER INVITATIONAL @ Council Rock North, Kayla Hennessy ruled the hurdles, running 15.04 for 100 and 44.54 for 300. St. Basil's Kathleen Davies set a meet record of 5:02.87 in the 1600. At the NESHAMINY INVITATIONAL, one of the top hurdlers in the state, Jarret Eaton, ran 14.37 for 110 and 37.69 for 300, both #1 in the state. Neshaminy's Chad Sargeant won the half and one-lappers, going 22.50 and 49.68. At the NORTH EAST INVITATIONAL, Tim Griffen of Seneca got in a strong triple jump of 46-09. Gary Kaminski of Cathedral Prep threw the javelin 174-01 for a meet record. Girard's Raegan Moore won three events, the 100 in 12.9, the 200 in 26.5 and the 100 hurdles in 16.2. At the TUNKHANNOCK ROTARY RELAYS, Dallas' girls went 51.56 to win the 4x100, while the GAR Memorial ran 44.57 for the boys' win. Paige Selenski of Dallas ran 25.93 and Tiahgee Daugherty of Tunkhannock, went 23.18 to each win their respective 200's. DELCO BOYS RESULTS ADDED WED We're just missing the PIAA D8 Relays, Jordan Relays, Schuylkill County Relays, York Suburban Relays, and Oil City Invitational. Well over 1000 elites to enter manually this week. They're being added as we have time.
