Perhaps no one was more surprised than Marlee Starliper. The Northern freshman wanted to go through the midway point of the 1600 meters at the Mid-Penn Conference Championships, slightly under 2:30, or 5 flat pace.Instead, she came through much faster and opened up a gap on the field. From there it was home free. Starliper beat fellow freshman Taryn Parks of Greencastle-Antrim, who has managed to get the best of her the other times the pair have race. But Saturday was Starliper's day. She crossed the line first in a time of 4:50.78, a PA#1 by nearly five seconds. It's also a US#14 and it makes Starliper the third ranked freshman in the country over 1600 meters. What more does she have in store for districts and states?Event 109 Girls 1600 Meter Run =================================================================== Name Year School Finals H# =================================================================== 1 Marlee Starliper 9 Northern 4:50.78 3 2 Taryn Parks 9 Greencastle- 4:55.70 3 3 Abby Yourkavitch 11 Chambersburg 5:04.85 3 4 Meg Lebo 10 Carlisle 5:05.44 3 5 Marie Rulapaugh 12 Cumberland V 5:12.24 3
