The 114th Annual Penn Relays this past weekend was a site to behold. With numerous meet records broken, the second largest attendance ever and near perfect weather, every event seemed to produce a few moments perfect for a 2008 track and field highlight reel. James Taylor wins long jump (23-10.75) at Penn Photos by Don Rich of PennTrackXC.com The Penn Relays has been a great success for the Virginia girls with a state record in the 4x400 by the Landstown girls, a near state record in the 4x800 by the Westfield girls, Natalie Baird becoming a three-time Penn Relays champion, and another 20+ foot long jump from Tynita Butts. Several more preps will be in action on Saturday at Penn Relays, but the attention will move away from Franklin Field and onto the University of Virginia's Lannigan Field for the Dogwood Track Classic. **U.S. Girls 4x800m Relay Record: Eleanor Roosevelt (MD) in 8:43.12!!! Friday just keeps on getting better. In the girls 4x800m relay, Holmwood Tech (Jamaica) beat Eleanor Roosevelt (MD) (photo left by Tim Fulton) 8:41.52-8:43.12 in a simply perfect race. Eleanor Roosevelt's performance broke the U.S. record by seven seconds. Eleanor Roosevelt then came back to win the 4x400m relay in 3:37.16. Thursday marked day one of the high school portion of the Penn Relays. Topping the way in the highlights Thursday was Ryann Krais' (PA) (pictured above by Don Rich) big 400m hurdle win in 59.62. Edwin Allen (Jamaica) ran 45.28 in the 4x100m relay for the top time of the day and Eleanor Roosevelt (MD) ran 3:38.40 in the girls 4x400m relay, top advancing time of the day! Four NY teams compete in 4x8 finals By Christopher Hunt PHILADELPHIA – Corning’s Albert Johnson has won some big competitions but nothing like this before. Not with this many people watching. PHILADELPHIA -- Sophomore Katelyn Rodrigue has enjoyed her share of history-making moments in two years at LSU, and Thursday she accomplished what no Lady Tiger has ever done by breaking her own school record to win the pole vault at the prestigious Penn Relays.
University of South Carolina junior Liza Todd, a 2005 graduate of Dreher, jumped a personal best 12 feet, 9.5 inches in the pole vault during day one of the 114th annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
