USATF Champs: Walker gets 800 bronze in close finish; Hoey 6th in 1500!

SATURDAY

Sarah Walker of Germantown Friends had her best USATF junior finish in 3 tries, earning the bronze medal in the 800 meter final in 2:08.37. But with her best finish came great heartbreak, as she was .01 seconds off of 2nd place, which is a spot on the Team USA for the Pan-Am Games in Canada later this summer.


Olivia Arizin of Cardinal O'Hara finished 8th in the same race in 2:13.40 to wrap up her first USATF junior competition. Jaxson Hoey of Downingtown West finished 6th in the boys 1500 meter final in 4:00.17.

FRIDAY

In the girls 800 meter prelim rounds, Sarah Walker of Germantown Friends (2:08.92) and Olivia Arizin of Cardinal O'Hara (2:09.33) made the qualification rounds look easy as they both finished in the top five to advance to tomorrow's final!



Andrew Marston of Conestoga finished 9th in the junior men's 5000 meter run with a time of 15:02.97.

In Friday's senior USATF action, Penn Wood alum Eric Futch advanced to the finals of the men's 400 meter hurdles by finishing 6th in the semifinals with a time of 49.51! The final will be contested on Saturday. Abington grad Leah Nugent advanced to the semifinals of the women's 400 meter hurdles in 56.65 to finish 8th in round 1.

Later, former Easton superstar Chanelle Price led all women's 800 meter semifinalists in 2:00.05 to book a spot in the final on Sunday.

THURSDAY

Jaxson Hoey of Downingtown West got the junior athletes of PA off to a flying start! The rising senior qualified for the finals of the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:00.28 to qualify on time. He will run the final that is scheduled for Saturday night!


In the senior championships, Easton graduate Chanelle Price (2:02.60), West Catholic alum Latavia Thomas (2:03.22) and Greater Latrobe alum Hanna Green (2:04.58) qualified for the semifinals of the 800 meter run! In the men's 400 meter hurdles, Penn Wood graduate Eric Futch ran 50.73 to advance to the semifinals on time.
