Recap: Chester County Indoor Championships

FULL RESULTS

Teams from Chester County boarded the bus after school and drove to Haverford College for the Chester County Indoor Championships. The meet produced some nice performances and some electric finishes.

Girls

In an exciting finish in the 800, Great Valley's Crosby Spiess managed to hang on, holding off a charging Makayla Eberly of Coatesville for the W in 2:25.73. The mile was arguably the race of the night, as Bishop Shanahan's Emily Bracken ran down Great Valley's Anna Willig, who had a big lead. Bracken caught up to Willig and in a sprint to the finish, the Shanahan senior nipped Willig at the line. Bracken talked with PennTrackXC after her race.

The Downingtown West girls cruised to a win in the 4x800 meters in a time of 10:01.01. Aislinn Devlin ran the anchor leg for the Whippets, splitting a 2:23 through traffic in the winning effort.

In the triple jump, despite a shorter-than-usual runway, Downingtown East's Evelyn Berecz went 37-00, not far off from her state-leading mark. Berecz discussed the challenges of a short runway and her successful season so far with us afterwards.

Boys

Downingtown West's Josh McLemore had a busy start to the meet. He started by placing third in the 60 meters. Jeremy Jennings and Mike Gwoah of Downingtown East went 1-2. McLemore then ran the 200 meters, which he won in a 23.09 for an easy win. After that, McLemore talked about his season and plans for the rest of the season.

The high jump was a nice battle between Sun Valley's Derrick Stephenson and PA#1 Darnell Randall from Perkiomen Valley. Stephenson got the best of Randall, clearing a PR of 6-3 for the win. He spoke about the excitement of getting a likely state qualifier out of the way.

Check back tomorrow for lots of race videos from Haverford.
