Stop Hoey: Jaxson is heavily favored
Jaxson Hoey of Downingtown West is the heavy favorite in the
mile to say the least. Most recently, Hoey raced against a loaded field at
Millrose, taking fifth in 4:11.07, which happens to be faster than his outdoor
mile and 1600 personal bests. Jaxson is feeling it this season.
The second seed is Liam Galligan of Springfield (Delco), who has put together a really solid indoor campaign. At Ocean Breeze, Galligan ran a 4:19.20 in a race that he took out hard from the gun. He faded, but then kicked back to take second.
Tucker Desko of Pennridge decided to run the mile and not the 800, after a nice win at the TFCAofGP Meet of Champs in the mile last week. The senior has looked strong all season long and has managed to maintain it. Hoey will provide a tough test, but Desko has proven to have the guts and we'll see what he's got.
Jaxson's brother, Josh Hoey is the fourth seed. He was neck-and-neck with Malvern Prep's Colin Wills at Ocean Breeze. Both should be factors in this race. Noah Falasco of Upper Merion and Connor McMenamin of Souderton were second and third to Desko at the TFCAofGP Meet of Champs in a tough race that showed their fitness.
Plenty of runners will have a shot at the medals, particularly from the slower heats, if the fast heat goes out fast and some fade. The mile will just be one of the many fireworks we expect to see at Penn State.
