Districts Recap: PA#1s Abound as We Look to Ship

District 10 Championships

AA RESULTS

AA BOYS: Make it a double repeat for Hickory's Evan Blaire! Blaire won both the shot put and the discus at District 10 AA for the second straight season. Blaire went over 180 yet again in the discus (an event where he's PA#1), throwing 184-8 for the win. He won the shot put with a best throw of 56-9.

It was a great race in the 4x800. Seneca got the best of Harbor Creek in the end, but both teams dipped under eight minutes in the event. Seneca timed in at 7:58.92 and Harbor Creek took second in 7:59.35.

Harbor Creek's Dan Kuhn came off that 4x800 and won the 800 in an impressive 1:55.58, a PA AA #4.

Mercyhurst Prep's Noah Curtin won the 1600 in 4:24.55 and then came back to take second in the 3200 in a time of 9:39.42. In that 3200, Connor Walsh of Cambridge Springs took the win in 9:36.51.

AA GIRLS: Tori McKinley of Hickory claimed her third straight district title in the discus, and won her first shot put district championship on Saturday. McKinley won the discus with a throw of 140-8 and the shot with a best throw of 43-10.5. She'll be the favorite to win those two events this upcoming weekend at Ship.

Hickory's Heather Grober dropped a huge PR in the 300 hurdles and even surprised herself with a time of 42.94 for the win. That's a PA#2 time and tops in AA by nearly a full second. Grober will be the one to watch at states next week.

Villa Maria's Claire Brown continued her great season, claiming a pair of wins in the 1600 and 800. Brown won the 1600 in 5:00.82 and the 800 in 2:16.60. She currently sits at PA AA #1 in both events. Sharon's Jordan Williams was second to Brown in both events. Williams ran 5:03.47 in the 1600 and 2:17.72 in the 800.

The Villa Maria 4x800 also took the win district title with a 9:39.42.

Wilmington's Julia Strobel won the pole vault, clearing 11-4.

AAA RESULTS

AAA BOYS: Journey Brown of Meadville continued to make his case as the state's best 100-meter sprinter. He helped that case on Saturday, winning the 100 in 10.72, a PA#3. There are plenty of sprinters in that territory in AAA, but Brown should be a force in the event come the weekend.

General McLane's Justin Miller, known more as a 400 runner, made some big noise in the 800 this weekend winning in a massive PR of 1:56.67. He'll be seen as a darkhorse in a deep field at states, but don't sleep on the upstart Miller.

Cathedral Prep had a big day in the throws. Prep's Grayson Hill won the javelin with a throw of 197-5, not far off his season best of 201-8. Then Prep's Cameron Landis added a district title in the shot put with a throw of 52-8.75.

Due to weather, the pole vault was moved inside. McDowell's Caleb Sanford took the win with a 14-3. He'll now turn his attention to states where he will face some stiff competition as he looks to follow up on his indoor state title.

AAA GIRLS: General McLane's Bethany Evankovich closed the book on a fantastic District 10 career winning her fourth 400-meter title in four years. She clocked a 56.11, the fastest time she's run in the event at districts in her career. She was fourth in AAA last year at states and she'll look to improve on that and her PR of 55.75. She also added district titles in the 100 meters (12.40) and 200 meters (25.37).

In a close pole vault competition, Morgan Vincent of Franklin cleared 11-0 to take the win. McDowell's Nada Buntic and Bryanna Burns also cleared 11-0, but took second and third to Vincent on jumps.
