Dominique Shultz, James Abrahams win close races at Rose Tree: Central Leagues Recap

Central Leagues Boys' Recap

There was little separating the top four a little after the two mile mark at Rose Tree Park. As they made their way around the final loop it was still anyone's race. But it was James Abrahams of Haverford that made his move with only about 100 meters to go and he out-sprinted a hard charging Matt D'Aquila of Lower Merion and Avery Lederer of Penncrest for the win.

Abrahams, who was disappointed with a fourth place finish at DELCOs a week earlier on the same course, got redemption and claimed the Central League title in a time of 16:01. Lederer was ahead of Abrahams at DELCOs, but Abrahams got the best of him and D'Aquila, along with Conestoga freshman Carlos Shultz this time around. Watch an interview with Abrahams below:

D'Aquila is having a solid senior season and he led the charge for his Central League champion Lower Merion. D'Aquila timed in at 16:04 for second place. Theodore Neckowicz was sixth and Evan Hassman was tenth for Lower Merion. They were 15 points better than second place Conestoga, winning 58-73. Watch an interview with D'Aquila below:

Haverford was third and Penncrest was fourth in the team battle. Both Lower Merion and Conestoga are seen as bubble teams to make the top five at the District One Championships in two weeks at Lehigh University.

Not racing on Saturday was perhaps the pre-race favorite, Liam Galligan of Springfield (Delco). Galligan learned on Friday that he has a season-ending stress fracture.
