Geist Tosses 75; Affolder, Carlisle Win 3; Shanahan Takes Team Title: Boys' Indoor States Recap

Boys' Relay Recap

Carlisle's big day started with the first event--the 4x800. The Herd stacked it with both Affolder brothers and it paid off. Carlisle clocked a US#1 of 7:45.86, just eight tenths off CB West's 2011 state record in the event. The race was super fast with the nation's top four times all coming here. Germantown Friends' took second in 7:47.81, Central Bucks West was third in 7:51.22, and State College Area was fourth in 7:51.31.

Carlisle then came back in the DMR at the end of the meet. Noah Affolder had already run the 4x8, mile, and 800 before it, but the eldest Affolder was on the anchor leg for the Herd. Carlisle ran away with the relay, running a US#1 time of 10:13.12 for the win. Germantown Friends' behind a great anchor leg from Nick Dahl took second in 10:21.64, a US#3. State College Area took third in a US#5 10:22.78 and Cardinal O'Hara was fourth 10:22.88.

But while Carlisle won those two relays, it was Bishop Shanahan that one the other two relays, and ultimately won the team championship over the Herd.

The first Bishop Shanahan relay win came in the 4x200. The team of Keegan Hughes, Nate Allyene, Cameron Dowling, and Ian Alleyne won in a time of 1:30.19. Coatesville crossed the line first, but they were disqualified for a lane violation that appeared to occur on their second exchange. Shanahan barely held off a very hard charging Downingtown East squad that nearly stole the win. East was just .01 off the winners in a thrilling finish.

Shanahan then returned in the 4x400 to close out the meet. The team of Hughes, Logan Yoquinto, Josh Hoey, and Nate Alleyne outlasted a strong field for the win in a new state-leading time. Josh Hoey ran a great third leg and handed off to 400 meter individual champion Nate Alleyne as Shanahan clocked a 3:21.80. Council Rock South ran a strong race for second in 3:22.51, St. Joe's Prep was third in 3:22.62 and Abington was fourth in 3:22.85.
