Geist Tosses 75; Affolder, Carlisle Win 3; Shanahan Takes Team Title: Boys' Indoor States Recap

Boys' Field Recap

Knoch's Jordan Geist once again put down a legendary performance in the shot put. Geist started his day off with a throw of 72-4.75 and then on his second throw, Geist tossed his biggest throw of the day of 75-3.75. Geist added throws of 73-9.5, 74-4, and 73-4 in a terrific series. Geist broke his own state meet record that he set last year. While it wasn't better than his state record throw from last week or the national record, it was another phenomenal day for the greatest shot putter in Pennsylvania prep history.

Upper Saint Clair's Harvey Kane was the surprise of the day, starting off the field events in a big way. On his final jump, Kane pulled out a massive PR of 23-0.5 to win the long jump title. Kane beat out five jumpers who went over 22 feet in the event.

Kyle Garland started off his day, taking second place in that long jump with a leap of 22-10.25. Then he won the 60 meter hurdles, and turned his attention to the high jump. Like he has all season, the Germantown Academy junior captivated the whole crowd as he got up in height. Garland cleared 6-10 to take the win, missing a few attempts at 7 feet.

2016 state champion Qayyim Ali was second with a jump of 6-8. Penn Wood's Dennis Manyeah also cleared 6-8, taking third on jumps. Lower Merion's James Burton got over 6-6 for fourth.

Hatboro-Horsham's Nick Marino had a big day in the pole vault. Marino, who was PA#1 for most of the season, held true to his ranking and got a big PR. The Bucknell recruit cleared 16-0 on his final attempt to take the win. Payton Morris of East Pennsboro took second, clearing 15-6.25.

Also in the world of big PRs for the win, Souderton's Shamar Jenkins pulled out the best jump of life in the triple on Saturday. Jenkins jumped 48-4.25 to take a competitive boys' triple jump. His previous best from outdoors last year was 47-11. Strath Haven's Dayo Abeeb was second with a jump of 47-6.75 and Milton Hershey's Treyvon Ferguson was third with a jump of 46-6.25.
