South Hills Classic - Meet Recap
GIRLS' RECAP
While the rain forced the postponement of the discus and javelin at the South Hills Classic, the shot put went off without a hitch and we saw a few big early season performances.
Hickory's Tori McKinley threw 45-4.5 to take over the PA#1 spot in the event. The reigning indoor and AA outdoor state champ is off to a good start. Baldwin's Jasmine Wicks threw 38-3.5 to take second with a PA#8.
BOYS' RECAP
Seneca put down one of the best performances of the weekend on Saturday. The reigning AA state champions in the 4x800 meter relay blasted a 7:58.50 to win. They return all four from last year's state championship squad and looked primed to do even better this season.
Hickory's Evan Blaire took the win in the shot put with a throw of 55-7.5. That's a PA#3. Hickory's teammate Tyler Bishop tossed 52-6.5 for second place. The Hickory boys also had a good day in the sprints. Dozie Ezi-Ashi won both the 100 meters (11.37) and the 200 meters (23.31), while William Gruber won the 400 meters (51.64). Caleb Gagliardi then won the 110 hurdles in 16.12. Hickory also picked up the win in the 4x100.
Baldwin's Casey Conboy won the 1600 meters in a time of 4:31 and then came back to place third in thr 3200 meters. Taylor Allderdice's Amadou Diallo won that 3200 meters in 9:46 and Winchester Thurston's Shaun Hay took second in 9:50.
Hopewell's Dantae Ranieri jumped 21-9.5 to take the win in the long jump.
