AAA Girls' 3200m Preview
Defending 3200 meter state champion, Aislinn Devlin of Downingtown West, will absolutely be going after a win to end her high school career. She won the District 1 title in her fastest time this season, 10:43.43. Devlin is coming off a stellar cross country season, winning XC States, Nike Cross Northeast Region race and setting a new 5k PR of 17:12.
Joining Devlin at the top will be a familiar rival, Clara Savchik of Northern Allegheny who got 2nd last year in 3200 meters. Devlin narrowly defeated Savchik last fall at XC states and Savchik will be looking for redemption on Saturday. Savchik still holds the top ranked time in the state at 10:39.30, which she ran a few weeks ago.
Savchik ran 10:48.24 last weekend to punch her ticket to states, but was beat by another rising star out of District 7, Hannah Schupansky of Oakland Catholic. Sophomore Schupansky ran a 10:43.57 (PA #6) for the win and comes in as the #3 seed this weekend. If her race plan is hanging on to Savchik again, expect her to be at the top. District 7's Mica Hanish of Ambridge Area will also be in the mix having run 10:50.00 (PA #8).
Some fantastic freshmen dominated the District 3 distance races last weekend, one of those was Wilson's Reagan Underwood. She ran 10:41.18, which puts her as the top seed. Charging down the final stretch in 1600 meters last weekend, Underwood could be heard yelling motivation to her teammate, senior Alison Willingmyre. Willingmyre is another to watch this weekend, having run 10:42.23 a few weeks ago. Willingmyre is no stranger to big stage, finishing fourth overall last fall at XC States. The two Wilson runners will need to work together to navigate this very talented field on Saturday.
District 3's Abby Yourkavitch of Chambersburg ran a solo 10:48.00 (PA #7) a few weeks ago and will definitely be up in the top pack as she looks to finish her successful senior season.
Other District 1 runners who have dipped under 11 minutes and will be hunting medals are: Cheltenham's MaryGrace Rittler, Perkiomen Valley's Annie Glodek, and Coatesville's Brooke Hutton.
