While she may be the national record holder, Connellsville's Madison Wiltrout never held the title of national champion...until now.
Wiltrout, in her final competition as a high schooler, won the girls' "Championship" javelin throw at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in Greensboro, North Carolina on Friday. Wiltrout threw 156 feet, three inches to edge out Dana Baker of Kansas for the win. Baker threw 154 feet, 10 inches for second.
Mifflin County's Skylar Ciccolini placed fourth overall with a throw of 144 feet, two inches. Check out the full girls' javelin results here.
The UNC-bound Wiltrout won her historic fourth consecutive PIAA Class AAA state title in the javelin a few weeks ago in Shippensburg. Her career-best throw of 185-8.25 is a national record. Wiltrout has battled some effects from her serious arm surgery, which came after her sophomore season, but still came away with the win on Friday.
