Kujdych 4th, Others Run Well In NY: Manhattan Invitational Recap

Manhattan Invitational - Boys' Recap

Plenty of Pennsylvania talent was stocked in the Eastern States race at Manhattan on Saturday.

Near the front, once again, was Rusty Kujdych of Neshaminy. Kujdych, who is the midst of a terrific senior season, placed fourth in the loaded boys' field. He crossed in 12:24, just seven seconds off the winner, Mason Gatewood of Saint Anthony's (NY).

Bishop Shanahan's Josh Hoey placed tenth in 12:46. West Chester Henderson's Spencer Smucker had a good day on the course, placing 18th in 12:56.

Evan Addison led the top team in the field, LaSalle College. The Explorers placed eighth in the field. Addison was 23rd in 13:03, while his teammate Vincent Twomey wasn't far behind in 28th place with a time of 13:08.

Downingtown West, paced by Payton Sewell's 30th place finish, was ninth, 46 points behind LaSalle. Bishop Shanahan was 14th and West Chester Henderson was 16th. We'll see Downingtown West, Shanahan, and Henderson, a trio of state hopefuls, at Ches-Monts this week and if they all go all out, it should be an interesting race.

The top PA performer outside the Eastern States race was Tavonne Davis of Taylor Allderdice. Davis ran 13:06 for third place, which is over 21 seconds faster than his time last season on the course. Now Davis will enter Saturday's District 8 Championships as the individual favorite.
