Girls (Saturday) Recap

TRACK

Talitha Diggs, a sophomore at Saucon Valley, showed on Saturday that she's ready for a big season. Diggs won the 55 meters in 7.17, an impressive early season time. Methacton's Amy Domenick took seventh (7.48) and Neumann Goretti's Eliza Brooks was eighth (7.54) in the 55 meter final.

Diggs went on to run 40.14 to place fifth in what was a loaded final. Conestoga's Grace Lanouette took seventh in the final, but ran 41.10 in the prelims. Those times put Diggs at PA#1 and Lanouette at PA#2.

Neumann Goretti is moving early in the season. The Saints went 3:54.20 in the 4x400 meter relay to take second place to Maryland's Franklin. Those teams ran the country's two fastest times of the season so far. The Baldwin School went 3:58.91 to place third in that final. Baldwin now sits at PA#2 and US#4.

Neumann Goretti's Sydni Townsend took second in the 600 meters to Maryland's Nyjari McNeil. Townsend ran a time of 1:35.19, a PA#1 and US#4. Fellow Saints Mykala Perry (fourth) and Dasia Wilson (ninth) also ran well in the 600 meters.

In the 4x200, Neumann Goretti went 1:43.58, a PA#1 on the young season. Methacton showed it can be a factor in the event this winter, running 1:46.38 for sixth in the finals. Central Bucks East ran a state leader in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:58.94.

Kyra Carroll of Penn Wood turned in a strong race in the 1000 meters. Carroll clocked in at 3:08.55 for second place.

Easton's Skyler Danley was second in the 2 mile, running 11:31.94. Villa Joseph Marie's Brianna Kling ran 5:28.91 to take ninth in the mile for a PA#2 time. CB East's Abby Eisold ran 9.00 in the 55 meter hurdles to take second in the "Sophomore" section. Eisold also cleared 5-0 in the high jump.

FIELD

Easton Area's Kate Willshaw had a great start to her junior season. Willshaw, who was third at indoor states last winter, matched her PR, clearing 5-6 to take second in the high jump. She cleared the same height as winner My'Khiyah Williams (NY), but Williams took the win on jumps.

Germantown Friends' Teasha McKoy took seventh in the shot put with a best throw of 34-6.25. Her teammate and sister Portia McKoy took seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 34-5.25.

Boys (Sunday) Recap

Two weeks, two monster meets for Austin Kratz of Dock Mennonite. The senior rolled to a pair of state leading times and one was even a national leader. Kratz is already the national leader in the 200 meters (a flat-track 21.76 from Ursinus last week).

Kratz ran 6.40 in the 55 meter dash final, .01 better than his time at Ursinus from last week. That's a PA#1 and a US#6. Then came the 300 meters, which was a "meet in the middle" matchup between Kratz and Miles Green of Saint Joseph's Prep (an indoor 400 meter specialist). In the end, Kratz captured the narrow victory over Green. Kratz clocked in at 33.93, while Green ran 34.32 for second. Those were US#1 and US#2 times.

Green ran the 55 meter hurdles earlier in the day and placed second in 7.64, a PA#2 (behind US#1 Kyle Garland). Easton Area's Katrell Thompson took third in the 55 meter hurdles in 7.86, while Dock's Nick Smith ran 8.22 for sixth.

In the 600 meters, Robert Dupell of Saint Joseph's Prep picked up where he left off at Loughlin last year. Dupell repeated as the event winner, running 1:22.56. It's slightly off his time from last year, but still a US#3 and a sign of good things to come from Dupell this winter. Neumann Goretti's Kamil Jihad took third in 1:22.80.

Dock Mennonite put down a great race in the 4x200 meter relay, showing it could be the team to beat in Pennsylvania this winter. Dock ran 1:31.37 to take second to Maryland powerhouse DeMatha Catholic, which ran a US#3 1:30.43. For Dock, the time was still good enough for a PA#1 and US#7.

Easton's Brendon Ekoko took a pair of thirds. He long jumped 20-7.75 and cleared 6-0 in the high jump. His teammate Elek Ferency was third in the shot put with a toss of 49-9, a PA#6.
