Girls' Recap
Talitha Diggs of Saucon Valley had a strong invitational opener to the season. She won both the 100 meter (12.14) and the 200 meters (25.25). Diggs will return to action at Ship this coming week. Susquehanna Township's Jada Burton was second to Diggs in the 200, but her big race came in the 400 meters. After winning at Bruce Dallas last week, Burton dropped a huge PR of 57.06 to take the win in a PA#2 time.
Milton Hershey's Tatyana Gibson earned a pair of wins. She went 5:15 to win the 1,600 meters, then returned to win the 800 in 2:21.
Berks Catholic's Keeley Suzenski had a great meet, winning both the shot put and the discus. Suzenski threw 43-08.5 in the shot, which puts her at PA#2 on the young season. In the javelin, Palmyra's Kirstin West won for a second straight week, throwing 123-04.
Central Dauphin's Taye Dairo won the high jump with a leap of 5-04, which ties her at PA#3. Karina Long of Lower Dauphin took the long jump win (18-03.75) and Taylor Givens of State College and Milton Hershey's Rebecca Tarnve tied for the triple jump win at 36-07.
Boys' Recap
Pottsville Area's Collin Ebling looked strong, kicking to the 800 meter win and the state lead. He clocked a 1:55.03, an outdoor PR for a new PA#1.
Harrisburg's Ronald Kent followed up his terrific winning performance last week, with another win this week. He went 11.03 (and 10.90 in the prelims). His teammate Jajuan Oliver, a freshman, ran 49.32 to win the 400 meters in impressive fashion. Shawn Brown of CD East went 22.41 to win the 200 meters.
Richard Gilchrist of Harrisburg dropped a 14.43 to win the 110-meter hurdles. That's a new PR and sign of good things to come for the returning state medalist. He now sits at PA#4. McConnellsburg's Josh Booth won the 300-meter hurdles, finishing in 39.40. That's not far off his PR of 39.11, which he ran to win the AA state title last spring.
There were a pair of PA#1s in the relay. The Central Dauphin East boys ran 42.42 for a meet record and state-leading time for the win in the 4x100-meter relay. Cumberland Valley then went 3:22.22 for a PA#1 win in the 4x400-meter relay.
Reading's Juan Mato-Segura won the high jump, clearing 6-07 for a PA#3 jump.
