"Having a blast," Steve Spence accidentally sets the 10K Masters' American Record at the Raleigh Relays March 26th.

Since he turned 40 in May of 2002, former Olympic marathoner and World Championships marathon Bronze medallist Steve Spence, has been focused on his day job – recruiting, coaching and motivating the men's and women's teams at Shippensburg University. With those responsibilities, and a wife and four children at home, he can't simply drop everything and train like he once did. But when he did become a masters runner, he talked about going after records and about his desire to compete. (see PennTrackXC.com feature from 2002).

In late March at the Raleigh Relays, conditioning met opportunity, and Spence ran a 30:18.06 10,000 meters on the track, and in the process, took off with 2nd place in the crowded field.
