AA Girls' High Jump Preview
Lydia Bottelier of Palisades will aim for the repeat in the high jump. Last year, she cleared 5-06 to take home the AA state title in the event. The versatile junior has gotten even better this season. In the winter, she captured the indoor state title with a leap of 5-08. She continued that success into the spring. She cleared a PR of 5-10 and US#9 at the Colonial League Championships and has shown consistency all year long.
A few girls with season bests of 5-06 will look to challenge the defending champ. Athens Area's Emily Lunger PR'd to win the District 4 title. In District 9, Taylor Newton of Elk County Catholic took home the crown, clearing a PR. Both will shoot for another PR at Ship.
Bishop McDevitt's Blair Knuckle was second to Bottelier a year ago. She was also second to her at indoor states. Knuckle always seems to perform her best and should be a factor once again this year. Lakeview's Cecily Greggs is the only other returning medalist from last season.
Beaver Area's Emma Pavalek (PA-AA#4), United's Michaela Bracken (T-PA-AA#5), Penn Cambria's Lauren Michina (T-PA-AA#5), Punxsutawney Area's Leah Miller (T-PA-AA#5), and Williamson's Charly Slusser (T-PA-AA#5) are among the other talented girls in this field.
