Individuals Breakdown: District 11 Boys

D11-AA Boys- Individuals Breakdown

Just like in 1A, the defending D11-AA champion's attempt at a repeat was thwarted last year. John Koons of Notre Dame Green Pond took down Saucon Valley's Ethan Bernstein for the win. Berstein has graduated, but Koons, who went on to take 14th at states, is back for his senior season hoping for a repeat performance.

Possibly standing in his way is another district champion from a year ago. Jacob Martinez of Palmerton Area ran to the D11-A title last season, and this year his team moves to 2A. Martinez, a rising senior, can still compete for the win this season and this battle will be worth watching for.

Saucon Valley's Matthew Chaikowsky took fourth in the district last year as just a freshman. As he moves into his sophomore year, he'll be a dangerous threat for the top spot as well. Jim Thorpe Area's Samuel Hydro also ran well at districts last year, taking sixth place. After a solid spring, Hydro can certainly move up big in the field this season.

Shane Artis of Salisbury Township and Anthony Coppolella of Pen Argyl Area are also back from the top ten in the district last year. 2A newcomers Morgan O'Brien and Marino Bubba from Bangor Area will also be in the mix, along with the North Schuylkill pair of Jake Nahas and Sean McCabe.
