Rumors had been floating around for a few days that PIAA State Champ, PA State Record Holder and US Champ in the 110 Hurdles, Wellington Zaza; a Garnet Valley grad; had selected a college from a sunny state in the southwest. Turns out the sunny was correct, but it is actually going to be in the Southeast, and the University of Miami Hurricanes. Asked by PennTrackXC's Patty Morgan why the change of heart... Zaza responded... "because I felt more at home and it's a young team that I think I would like to grow with and create an early bond."
For the record, his 13.54 with a -1.2 wind, broke an 18-year-old record of 13.61 from 1995 held by all-time great Deworski Odom of Overbrook. Not to dispair, Odom still holds the indoor hurdles records at both 55 and 60 meters.
