9/27-Elder & Mock win individual titles, Baldwin boys, Central Cambria girls @ Lion @ PSU-Altoona

Penn State Altoona hosted the 1st Annual Lion Invitational at historic Fort Roberdeau on Saturday, September 27, 2003. 439 athletes competed in the event: 73 collegiate runners, 338 high school athletes, and 28 open competitors.

In both high school races Baldwin and Central Cambria waged close battles for the team titles. Berlin Brothers Valley freshman Megan Elder won the girls race; David Mock, Westmont Hilltop, the boys\'.

In both high school races Baldwin and Central Cambria waged close battles for the team titles. Central Cambria prevailed in winning the girls race with 2 runners in the top-10 and all five scorers in the top-25. Berlin Brothers Valley freshman Megan Elder ran with a pack of four runners before pulling away from Baldwin sophomore Allyson Sheehan late in the race to win in a course record time of 20:42 (5 km / 3.11 miles).

Baldwin captured the boys race with 3 of the top-10 individuals and all scorers in the top 25.  Westmont Hilltop senior David Mock ran away from the field after the first mile to establish a course record of 16:34 (5 km / 3.11 miles). He was followed to the finish line 31 seconds later by teammate Frank Eanes.

Juniata College and Penn State Altoona went 1-2 in both of the collegiate races, with Juniata coming out on top of both fields.   Juniata\'s Chris Sheaffer established a course record of 28:15 in winning the collegiate men\'s race (7.73km / 4.80 miles).  Mount Aloysius grad student Heidi Rickard established the women\'s record of 24:52 in winning the collegiate women\'s race (5.84 km / 3.63 miles).
