Easton\'s Abbie Dubin-Rhodin named Academic All-American by Metropolitan Athletic Congress (NSIC)

 

Easton Area High School senior Abbie Dubin-Rhodin has been named an Academic All-American by USATF-Metropolitan, which recently hosted the 2007 National Scholastic Indoor Championships in New York City. Dubin-Rhodin is the only student from Pennsylvania on the 17-person team of scholastic track and field athletes.

Academic performance, community service and teacher recommendations based on a specific academic endeavor are among criteria for the selection.

She focused her essay on time spent shadowing a world-renowned cancer doctor at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dubin-Rhodin is an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, ranks in the top 10 percent of her class and was named last fall as the Lehigh Valley Conference scholar athlete for cross country.

On the track, Dubin-Rhodin is an indoor Nike All-American and national champion in the sprint medley relay. Easton Track Club's team of Tenesia Simpson, Jessica Dorsey, Dubin-Rhodin and Chanelle Price ran the best indoor time in the nation (3:56.46) this year. No other team broke 4 minutes. Dubin-Rhodin was also 2x all-state and a gold medalist in two indoor relays this year and was all-state and state champion last year in one.

She was first-team all-Lehigh Valley Conference last fall in cross country as well. Dubin-Rhodin is also a three year member of both National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. In addition, she participates in Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley

She plans to continue her academic and athletic careers in the fall at Columbia University. She will major in neuroscience&behavior, with hopes of becoming a doctor.
