10/14-Koons in a class alone, but Parkland girls/boys roll @ Lehigh Valley

Frances Koons toured the Lehigh University 5k in 18:16, unchallenged. Parkland\'s squads are looking like state contenders heading into Districts. Frances Koons, the Allentown Central Catholic star senior, ran her final race at Lehigh\'s Goodman Campus, and took a ton of time off her race there a year ago. Her 18:16 was 35 seconds better than first-time XC runner (and reformed Field Hockey player) Lauretta Dezubay of Freedom. Koons won in 18:15.3 over Lauretta Dezubay\'s 18:50.8. Koons went out hard and by the mile mark had 9 seconds on Dezubay; 5:24 to 5:33. CCHS had the lead at 2 miles 32 to 35, but Paula Giguere, who is rounding into shape for Parkland, moved from 9th to 7th, while Kristen Knouse moved up from 13th at 2m to 11th and that was it. Parkland remains undefeated with this 30 to 34 win. Parkland\'s boys were not challenged by anyone on the way to their second straight league title with 28 points. Soph Steve Finley was first in 16:21, followed by teammates, freshman Tim Stepp in 2nd Kevin Collins in 4th, and Mark Hoaglund in 7th, and Kent Zwickl in 11th.
