The tone is set for Saturday, thanks to Breehana Jacobs of Laurel Highlands, Devan Coon of Schuylkill Valley, Ryann Krais of Methacton,  and Chanelle Price of Easton

Jacobs posted an 11.91 to lead all qualifiers in the AAA girls 100. She followed that with a stellar 54.59 400 trials, and a 24.70 in the 200. The meet records are strong, but within reach. One of the top times in those three events could come from AA's Devan Coon, who posted three sub-25's in her district meet and cruised to a  25.16 qualifier Friday. She also ran a controlled 57.10 in the 400, 3rd best on the day. Coon also anchors Schuylkill Valley's 4x100 with a dazzling sprint and dive to the finish to pull out her heat, making up 20 meters on the field. The 50.51 put them in the AA finals. State record 300 hurdles record-holder Ryann Krais of Methacton tried to better her mark in the 300 hurdles, and came up just shy with a 41.84 clocking. She'll try again Saturday. She did win the long jump with a leap of 18-07.75. Her 14.03 was easily the fastest 100 hurdles qualifier. And she anchored her 4x400 to the second fastest qualifier, setting up a dream anchor dual with Easton's Chanelle Price. Price helped her Easton team to the top time in the 4x800. But the race Price is aiming for is the 800 record of 2:05.47 held by PA's Kim Gallagher (Upper Dublin), set in 1982, and maybe the NFHS record of 2:04.50 held by Joetta Clark, set in 1980.

Karen Shump, Penncrest, wins her 3rd consecutive AAA Shot Put.

Track

Two teams that ran under 8 for the 4x800 in AAA did not advance to the finals. And in an unusual twist. 13 teams will be in the final. The twist occurred in the first heat when Bradford was apparently disqualified, and Wissahickon, Baldwin, Coatesville and Central Dauphin were advanced, But Bradford's appeal was approved, and because the field at been set, Bradford was added as the 5th team from heat one, and 13th overall. The hottest of the two teams was the 2nd, as York Suburban ran 7:50.96 to lead Chambersburg, North Penn, West Chester East, Great Valley, Cumberland Valley, Radnor and State College (8th in the heat in 7:58.38. Strath Haven, from heat one, missed by just .09. Carver Engineering & Science at 8:07.97 from heat one, and Lakeland at 8:07.31, led the AA boys qualifiers. In the girls 4x800, Easton won heat two in 9:19.98, with top seed Gwynedd Mercy at 9:21.58. It took 9:29/58 to make the finals. Saint Basil Academy, running in heat one, was the top qualifier in AA at 9:32.52. 9:47.93 was the cutoff.

Running the first race of three on the day, to go with her long jump, Methacton's Ryann Krais easily ran the fastest time in the AAA 100 hurdles, going 14.03. Only William Tennent's Kayla Hennessy was under 15 at 14.94. The top four qualifiers from the four heats in AA should match up closely in the finals: Taylor Funk, Mount Pleasant 15.38, Anthonia "Mouse" Ballard, Swenson 15.29, Rachel Houseknecht, Hughesville, 15.09, and Christa Rogers, Quaker Valley, 15.37. In the 100 hurdles, top seed Jarret Eaton of Abington, posted the fastest qualifier at 14.52. McDowell's Brice Myers ran 14.63 with West York's Tyler Real at 14.78. In AA, Montoursville's Keenan Michael ran 14.85 with Jacob Librizzi of Bishop Guilfoyle at 14.94 to lead the seed into tomorrow's finals.

Breehana Jacobs of Laurel Highlands ran 11.91 to lead all qualifiers in the AAA girls 100. Swenson freshman Shanae Bailey led AA qualifiers at 12.14, 2nd fastest on the day in either class. Two western PA athletes were the only athletes under 11 seconds in AAA boys, with AJ Alexander of Altoona in at 10.91 and  LaMont McWilliams, Strong Vincent at 10.96. Central Columbia junior Cliff Toledo ran 10.96 to lead AA qualifiers.

It took under 5:08 to advance to the finals of the AAA girls 1600. Top seed Neely Spence of Shippensburg was 2nd in the deep 2nd heat, going 5:00.19, just behind Perkiomen Valley's Ali Nolen in at 5:00.01. Penn Trafford senior Diana Filtz led heat one in 5:01.42. Neshannock jumior Kacey Gibson cruised in AA going 5:10/75. 5:17.24 was the cutoff. Baldwin sophomore T.J. Hobart was apparently not the least bit intimidated by his first 1600 qualifier at states, posting the fastest time of the day at 4;16.11. Six from each heat advanced with the cutoff at 4:19.64. Smethport senior Ben Hahn ran 4:20.31 in AA.

Ryann Krais, Methacton, won 1st of three golds in Friday's long jump.

In the 400, Jacobs continued her domination of AAA, ripping a 54.59. The only one within a second in qualifying was Ije Iheoma of Council Rock South at 55.40. In the AA, the 2nd fastest 400 of the day was posted by top qualifier Devan Coon of Schuylkill Valley, running 57.10. In AAA, 13 guys went under 50 seconds with Cheltenham's Brandon Bing running a PA #1 48.09 in heat three. Simon Gratz junior Khaliff Featherstone ran 48.46. Nine AA guys busted 50 with Austin Perron of Engineering & Science leading the pack in 49.21.

Penn Hills ran 47.97 to lead the AAA girls qualifiers in the 4x100. The cutoff was 48.90. Quaker Valley ran 48.83 to lead AA qualifiers. Schuylkill Valley had the 5th fastest time after a dazzling anchor by Devan Coon, making up 20 meters to lead them to a 50.51 and the heat four win.  J.P. McCaskey led AAA boys qualifiers with their 42.06. The favorites coming into the meet, Altoona, was DQed on a uniiform violation. Aliquippa was the top qualifier in AA at 42.86.

State record holder Ryann Krais of Methacton tried to better her mark in the 300 hurdles, and came up just shy with a 41.84 clocking. Three AA girls were within .1 of each other, led by Anthonia Ballard of Swenson in 45.25. Also winning heats were Amanda Seigworth of Northwestern and Samantha Simile of Chartiers-Houston. Abington's Jarret Eaton was well over a second better than anyone in the AAA race, going 37.28. Dat Doughery of Schuylkill Haven was the top AA qualifier.

Northampton's Laura Rycek takes the AAA javelin.

Chanelle Price of Easton ran the 4th fastest indoor 800 of all-time at the PTFCA state champs in February. She's aiming for a record meet record, and another all-time performance on Saturday after cruising to a 2:11.60. Chester junior Shaniel Chambers ran 2:12.55 in the first heat. St. Basil runners Kathleen Davies and Colleen Gilmore won their respective heats in nearly idential 2:16's. Ten guys in the AAA boys race were between 1:56 and 1:57. Favorite Andrew Rotz of Central Dauphin was among the pack. Tussey Mountain's Jordan Donaldson ran 1:57/.99 in heat one, and Jamar Jones of Engineering & Science went 1:58.72.

Jacobs smoked the 200 trials, going 24.70 in AAA. In AA, Devan Coon of Schuylklll Valley, who ran sub-25 three times at her district meet, ran 25.16. Cheltenham's Brandon Bing ran 21.89 for the fastest time in the trials. Montour soph Matt Bellay, North Penn's Chris Dolllinger and Altoona's  AJ Alexander each won their respective heats.  Rocheter's Derek Moye was the fastest qualifier in AA at 22.66.

The three D12 schools, Engineering & Science, Swenson and Paul Robeson showed they came to run, posting the three best times of the trials out of 31 teams in the 4x400. Step back from the track for the girls AAA 4X400. Easton, anchored by Price, Methacton, anchored by Krais, plus Harrisburg and Norwin all ran in the 3:53-3:54 range. Engineering & Science ran 3:21.54 to lead AA qualifiers. And McDowell ran 3:18.31 in one heat, with Cumberland Valley at 3:18.61 in heat two, Harrisburg at 3:19.00 and Neshaminy at 3:19.68.
