PTXC Track and Field Athletes of the Week January 17

Girls

Track

Sarah Walker of Germantown Friends has been a top 800 meter runner outdoors, but up until this weekend, that form hasn't been shown on the indoor oval. At Saturday's Yale Classic, Walker ran a big indoor personal best and US#1 time of 2:10.52 to earn her biggest indoor win in her career. She also led a 1-2-3 finish for PA in the event.

Field

While chasing the top two girls shot putters all season, Jocelin Ruth of Kutztown Area continues to improve and close the gap on Emily Stauffer and Courtney McCartney. On Saturday at the Kent State High School Invitational, she threw a lifetime best 45-4 to win the shot put and shrink the gap to the number 2 spot to just 28 inches. She also was the top PA thrower in the weight throw with a 3rd place finish of 43 feet even.

Boys

Track

The 3000 meter run this weekend exploded with 8 sub 9 minute performances on Saturday. Leading that pack was AA boys cross country champion Dominic Hockenbury of Lake Lehman, who made the most of the long trip to the Yale Classic with a state leading 8:38.39. It is the first time Hockenbury has broken 9 minutes and his performance was nearly 30 seconds better than his previous best.

Field

Isaiah Brooks of Woodland Hills continues to look like the man to beat in the horizontal jumps. On Saturday, he improved on his state lead in the triple jump on Saturday at the Akron Open Meet with a mark of 46-2.50. He also won the long jump in 22-4 to keep his undefeated season alive.
