Marissa Umbel, the talented Indiana HS junior who was closing fast on AAA state champ Frances Koons at States on Nov 1, ran a Thanksgiving morning 5k, getting 9th overall in 17:42. You'd think that would be good enough for the first female, but 2003 NCAA Division II XC runner-up Mindy Sawtelle was 3rd in 16:46.
