District 7 have the individual leaders of the pack in the early going. Griffin Mackey of Sewickley Academy is proving that his December 15:37 performance last season was no fluke, running 15:48 on the opening weekend. Meanwhile, the 2 time girls state champion Marianne Abdalah of Vincentian Academy was the top finisher in the AA/A race at Red White and Blue in 18:50. It was her 10th career victory in 15 PA races.
District 1 girls champion Emma Seifried of Country Day School of the Sacred Heart started her season with a runner up finish at the Bulldog Invite at Rose Tree in 19:26. She has never run slower than 19:30 in any of her six career races and she's never finished outside of the top 3. Boys District 3 champ Blake Behney of Camp Hill ran 17:39 to record a top 15 finish at Big Valley on the opening weekend. It was his 2nd straight season with a 13th place finish in his first race.
Joe Previdi of Masterman won the small school race at Rose Tree in 16:02 to record his first career victory, while Tori Ross of Warrior Run leads the girls district 4 list with her win at Lock Haven in 19:04.
Defending girls state team champions Central Cambria packed 9 runners under 22 minutes at the PTXC 7 meet to retain their championship. Six of those runners earned medals and another won the JV girls race. District rival St Joseph's Catholic Academy won the Lock Haven Invite and are pushing for one of the two state spots in District 6.
Boys state champions Winchester Thurston finished 3rd in the Red White and Blue AAA race, trailing AAA district 7 powerhouses North Allegheny and Mount Lebanon. Northeast Bradford are the pacesetters for the district 4 boys after winning the Wyalusing Valley Invite with 25 points with a 65 second spread.
Warrior Run girls are leading district 4 after a good start at the Lock Haven Invitational, Vincentian Academy girls are showing that the group behind Marianne Abdalah is getting better. They were dominant in the Class A scoring at Red White and Blue with 26 points, 62 points better than their nearest competitors. They have five additional sub 22 minute runners on the roster.
