Paul Short Run Announces Format Change for 2024 Running

- - -

Lehigh University has announced that for the first time, the Paul Short Run will be held over two days.

High School races will take place on Friday, October 4th, while the college and open races will compete on Saturday, October 5th.

As a result, the event committee was able to expand field sizes and offer more races for each respective division. Historically, there were only two divisions for high school and three for college. This year, Paul Short is offering three divisions for high school and four for college. In total, there will now be 16 races when you include the open heats on Saturday.

On the High School side, each race will accommodate up to 45 teams and 12 runners per team. With the increased field sizes, Paul Short can now accommodate up to 3,240 high school athletes on race day.

High School seeding will be split into Gold, Brown and White races.

According to the Paul Short Run registration information; Gold Races will consist of state championship qualifiers and teams "that frequently finish in the top third of their races."

The Brown field will be a step-down from the Gold Race and consist of teams hoping to qualify for their state championships and teams that finish in the top half of their races. The White Race is considered a developmental race, allowing teams to gain experience while competing in a larger and more premier field.
