The 2024 cross country season concluded after 15 Pennsylvania runners competed with the nation's best at Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) on December 7 and Foot Locker Nationals on December 14.
Qualifying for either of these prestigious meets is something few high school cross country runners can say they did. Competing at such a high level through December is an awe-inspiring accomplishment worthy of recognition.
Nike Cross Nationals Recap
NXN was run on the Glendoveer Golf Course in rainy Portland, Oregon. The championship event elevates the top cross country runners in the nation while also emphasizing team performance, matching up a mix of individual qualifiers and 22 (girl's and boy's) teams for an epic showdown.
Julia Kelly (Downingtown West) and Baylee Espinosa (Lewisburg Area) started the action in the girl's race, posting impressive finishes. Kelly paced the two, running 18:25.00 for a strong 49th place. Espinosa also found success running 18:43.80, finishing 73rd. For reference, there were 199 girls in the race.
