Class AAA Report: Week 3

The girls champions flexed their title muscle and stormed to the top of the George School Invitational and the top of the state. Pennsbury had strong performances from Olivia Sargent, Hannah Molloy, and Mary Webb to lead the team to a convincing win and on track in their title defense. It was their 2nd win in a row after taking home the Cherokee 2 Mile Challenge title in New Jersey the week before.

Seneca Valley girls went from being a long distance off of Villa Maria at Red White and Blue to miles apart from the rest of the AAA field at Slippery Rock last Saturday. Seneca Valley scored 39 points to win by 63 points over the field. Their next step is to keep their dominance of the AAA division in District 7 against North Allegheny and Mount Lebanon at the Foundation meet on Saturday.

Central Bucks West boys emerged on top once again by winning the Briarwood Championship race over Lasalle, Central Bucks West, and Cardinal O'Hara. West stay unbeaten and their latest win may be the best of the bunch for the past two years. Lasalle had a 35 second spread, but it couldn't overcome the two top five finishers CB West had on that day led by Rock Fortna's runner up performance. North Allegheny missed another win at Boardman in Ohio by one single solitary point as their quest to find a solid number five for their title defense continues.

Jake Brophy of CB East stayed unbeaten with a solo victory at the Briarwood Championship race. He ran 16:07 but was never challenged. Perhaps Saturday's PIAA Foundation Invite will provide a stern challenge in a meet he didn't win last season, but it took a course record to beat him. Nathan Henderson of JP McCaskey ran 15:50 to win the Big Spring Invite. The 3200 meter state medalist is looking to make a name for himself this season, and that performance is a good way to start.

Olivia Sargent and Olivia Arizin were both victorious at their respective invites on Saturday. Sargent ran 17:53 to win the George School Invite and record the fastest time in the state this season. Arizin put on her best cross country performance of his career by a big margin with her Briarwood Championship win in 19:25, leading from start to finish.
